Japanese "furin" wind chimes are a traditional summer item that reminds one of a cool breeze through the "chirin" sound it makes. The "tanzaku" (paper strip that catches the wind) is made from "Sugiharagami", a unique paper still made in Taka-cho, Hyogo Prefecture, using traditional techniques. In 1983, it was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Hyogo Prefecture. Handmade with no bleaching agents from pure "kozo" paper (with durable long fibers) it has a natural whiteness and gentle texture unique to such handmade products.
